PM 2.5 Dust Levels Exceed Standards in 21 Provinces, Trend Expected to Rise

Bangkok: PM 2.5 levels continue to exceed standards across 21 provinces, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, according to the Pollution Control Department. The northern and eastern regions have also reported concerning levels, with the trend expected to rise throughout the next week.

According to Thai News Agency, the Pollution Control Department's Air Pollution Resolution Communication Center released a report on December 3, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., indicating high PM 2.5 levels in several provinces. Areas particularly affected include Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Prakan. Major provinces in the northern and eastern regions, such as Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachoengsao, are also experiencing elevated levels.

The measured dust levels in various regions are as follows: Northern region recorded 4.1-51.5 micrograms per cubic meter, Northeastern region 11.2-67.0 micrograms per cubic meter, Central and Western regions 22.1-52.9 micrograms per cubic meter, and Eastern region 15.5-64.4 micrograms per cubic meter. The Southern region maintained good air quality with levels between 11.8-35.2 micrograms per cubic meter, while Bangkok and surrounding areas ranged from 34.9-73.2 micrograms per cubic meter.

The seven-day forecast from December 4-10, 2025, suggests that PM 2.5 levels will continue to rise in Bangkok and surrounding areas, as well as 17 provinces in the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions. Monitoring remains crucial, although the southern region is expected to maintain good air quality.
