Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Outlines Economic Measures Amidst Political Stability

Bangkok: The Prime Minister revealed that he has prepared economic measures for the next phase. He expressed his delight at seeing the “Half-Half” scheme become a reality from his first day in office. He declined to look ahead to the next four years, but instead emphasized that the following four months should be completed. He insisted that the economic problems are not caused by frequent government changes, but rather by corruption. He noted that Japan and the UK have had more government changes than Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, addressed the government’s ongoing economic measures, following the implementation of the “Half-Half Plus” scheme. He stated that he will strive to lay a strong foundation for the economy and ensure income distribution for all citizens, particularly by the end of this year. He added that the government will spend four months working diligently to establish a sound strategy and foundation, enabling the next government to build on it. Phase 1 and Phase 2 measures are being prepared, including those related to tourism.

Regarding the budget for each project, the Prime Minister stated that fiscal discipline is paramount. He emphasized that the government does not merely distribute funds to the public but involves them in participatory processes. The government has used over 30 billion baht to repay debt to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), demonstrating fiscal discipline and instilling confidence in maintaining the fundamentals of the economy.

On the push for Thailand to regain its leadership position in the ASEAN region, the Prime Minister stated that Thailand has historically been a leader in finance, tourism, agriculture, and industry. He emphasized the need to adapt to new global rules and expressed confidence in Thailand’s strong geopolitical position. Mr. Anutin asserted that aiming to quickly regain economic leadership poses no harm.

Despite Thailand’s geopolitical advantage, political continuity remains a challenge. The Prime Minister responded that the issue lies in corruption rather than politics. He emphasized the importance of building a digital society to enhance transparency and accountability, advocating for the development of information systems, AI, and digital tools.

The Prime Minister remains confident in the country’s political stability, highlighting adherence to agreements with all parties. He noted that frequent changes in government could impact investors, but expressed belief in the system, the people, and the commitment to good governance. He affirmed that if a solid foundation is laid in the coming months, it will benefit the economy in the long term.

Mr. Anutin expressed satisfaction with the launch of the “Half-Half Plus” project and the debt repayment to BAAC on the first day of the government’s work. He highlighted the importance of starting initiatives correctly to ensure continued success.

Regarding the economic impact of having a strong team, Mr. Anutin emphasized that the Thai Party is committed to addressing issues and promoting peace and order in the region. He stressed the importance of compliance with established goals to ensure the safety and sovereignty of Thailand.
