Pomeranian Dog “Kathi” Set for Return Amid 100,000 Baht Ransom Demand

Bangkok: “Kathi,” a Pomeranian dog, is set to be reunited with its owner after a ransom demand of 100,000 baht was placed. The handover is planned for 3 PM today at Min Buri Police Station.

According to Thai News Agency, the situation began when the dog owner and their sibling both experienced strokes, requiring them to temporarily leave “Kathi” in another’s care. Upon recovery, the owner sought to reclaim the dog but faced a demand of 100,000 baht for alleged care and medical expenses. This demand prompted questions about the owner’s ability to provide adequate care and resulted in a legal complaint.

Recently, police and related agencies have intervened, coordinating the return of “Kathi.” A meeting is scheduled for today at 3:00 PM at Min Buri Police Station. It remains uncertain if further compensation will be sought from the opposing party. The dog’s owner maintains that despite financial disparities with the opposing party, their decade-long bond with “Kathi” demonstrates their commitment and ability to care for the dog.

From a legal perspective, lawyer Phat noted that a dog is legally considered the property of its owner when entrusted to someone else’s care. If the owner seeks to reclaim their pet, the caretaker must return it. Refusal to do so could lead to embezzlement charges. Additionally, any care expenses claimed cannot justify retaining custody without a prior agreement.
