Udon thani: Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, has initiated a comprehensive effort to upgrade the skills of the "public address system" network, aiming to improve crisis communication capabilities. This initiative focuses on delivering rapid, clear, and accessible alerts to communities during emergency situations, particularly during the flood season.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas presided over the opening ceremony of the activity 'Strengthening the Network of Public Address Tower Operators for Communication in Crisis Situations (During the Flood Season)' for the fiscal year 2026. The event was attended by notable figures including Mr. Pisitchai Aphaipikul, Deputy Governor of Udon Thani Province; Mr. Pradermchai Boonchuaylue, Advisor to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office; Dr. Pornpitak Maensiri, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Public Relations; alongside executives from the Department of Public Relations, heads of government agencies, community leaders, village headmen, public address tower operators, and network members.
Ms. Supamas emphasized the government's proactive approach under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership to prevent and mitigate flood impacts. She highlighted the importance of preparing communication mechanisms at the local level before events occur, allowing people time to prepare and minimize potential losses.
Ms. Supamas noted that many areas are at risk of flooding during the rainy season, stressing the Prime Minister's concern for the public's welfare. Quick and clear flood warnings are essential to reach as many people as possible, she stated.
The Public Relations Department has collaborated with the Ministry of Interior to utilize public address systems as a vital community tool for conveying government information to village-level audiences. Approximately 80,000 public address systems nationwide can connect with the Public Relations Department's radio, television, and online media platforms, ensuring crucial information dissemination swiftly and comprehensively.
Ms. Supamas remarked that broadcasting tower operators are integral to the government's communication system, playing a significant role in verifying and transmitting accurate information, creating understanding, and reducing public confusion during urgent situations.
She also highlighted that effective crisis communication requires cooperation from all sectors, especially local communication networks. The activity aims to enhance public address system operators' skills and foster collaboration between government agencies and local networks to ensure accurate and timely information during crises.
The Public Relations Department is a trusted state media outlet relied upon during normal and crisis times. Strengthening the readiness of public address system operators will enhance government communication reach to village and community levels, ensuring timely warning information in at-risk areas.
