Bangkok: The Thai Olympic Committee is advancing its efforts to establish "Safe Thai Sports" by organizing the inaugural "Safeguarding in Sports: From Policy to Practice" training program in Thailand. The initiative, a collaboration between the Commission on Safety and Gender Equality in Sports and the Olympic Committee of Thailand, aims to promote protection and safety in the sports sector.
According to Thai News Agency, the training seminar was held on August 28, 2026, at the Convention Hall of The Grand Fourwings Hotel in Bangkok. The event featured prominent figures, including Assistant Professor Pimol Srivikrom, President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, Dr. Suwanna Silpa-archa, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, and Mr. Nikorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, who emphasized the importance of safeguarding in sports.
The training was designed to implement the National Safeguarding in Sport Policy effectively, aiming to provide knowledge and practical guidelines to create a safe and equitable sports environment. It focused on the protection of athletes, especially children and youth, and sought to prevent abuse, harassment, and violence in sports, while promoting gender equality.
The event included expert-led discussions on safeguarding in sports, digital safety, cyberbullying, athletes' rights and well-being, gender equality, and protection against gender-based violence. Participants were encouraged to exchange experiences and collaborate with government and sports sector stakeholders to integrate safeguarding practices into sports organizations.
The National Olympic Committee of Thailand prioritizes creating a secure environment for all sports participants. The training provided a platform for fostering collaboration among government bodies, sports entities, and social stakeholders to transform policies into actionable safety standards.
Associate Professor Pimol Srivikrom highlighted the committee's commitment, stating, "The National Olympic Committee of Thailand places importance on this matter, and I was assigned to work with Ms. Kae, who is very active." Dr. Suwanna Silpa-archa echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for attention to athletes' mental health and well-being, in addition to winning medals for Thailand.
Participants in the training program will receive an e-Certificate upon completion. The "Safeguarding in Sports: From Policy to Practice" project marks a significant step forward for Thai sports, fostering a culture that prioritizes safety, rights, equality, and well-being, enabling sports spaces to be areas of growth and learning for all.
