Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on Thursday that the government is set to introduce an emergency decree to facilitate a loan worth approximately 500 billion baht ($15 billion) aimed at stimulating the economy. After a strategic meeting with his economic team and relevant agencies, Anutin emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to legal and constitutional frameworks in the implementation of this borrowing plan.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin stressed that the procedures will be conducted in compliance with regulations, ensuring they are legally sound and beneficial to the nation and its citizens. While the ceiling for the loan has been set at 500 billion baht, the Prime Minister highlighted that the exact amount to be utilized will be determined at a later stage.
The government's decision to secure this funding aligns with its strategy to implement primary economic stimulus measures amid a sluggish economic recovery. The announcement also coincided with the Bhumjaithai Party's release of details on the "Thai Chuey Thai" (Thais Helping Thais) program via their official Facebook page. This initiative aims to reduce living costs and enhance domestic purchasing power.
Per the party's infographic, the program provides a subsidy of 4,000 baht per person, operating under a co-payment model where the government covers 60% of spending, and the citizen contributes the remaining 40%. The subsidy will be distributed in monthly installments of 1,000 baht over four months. Registration is scheduled to open in May 2026, with the scheme officially launching in June 2026. Transactions will be facilitated through the "Pao Tang" mobile application and will be applicable at participating shops nationwide.
