Ubon ratchathani: Another Thai soldier has suffered a severe injury after stepping on a landmine at Chong An Ma. The Royal Thai Army is committed to providing full care for the affected soldier.
According to Thai News Agency, the 2nd Army Area reported that Sergeant Major Chanarong Wongchana, a member of the 1st Operation Unit of the Humanitarian Mine Action Center, Royal Thai Army Command, was injured while on duty in the Nam Yuen District. The incident occurred at around 10:30 AM, resulting in the amputation of his lower right leg. Emergency responders quickly evacuated him from the site and transported him to Nam Yuen Hospital, with plans to airlift him to Sapphasitthiprasong Military Hospital for further medical attention.
Major General Winthai Suvari, a spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, explained that the area was previously compromised during conflicts, as Cambodian forces had illegally occupied it. After regaining control, the region was marked as hazardous, and a team from the National Mine Action Center was deployed to conduct mine-clearance operations.
Following the incident, other personnel sustained injuries to their right ankle, right hand, and various parts of their bodies. They remain conscious and in stable condition and are being treated at Sapphasitthiprasong Camp Hospital.
The Royal Thai Army has expressed its condolences and confirmed that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the best possible care for those injured.
