Bangkok: The Thai Labor Union (TLU) made a significant move by storming Government House to present nine critical demands, focusing on issues such as raising wages and addressing energy problems. This action highlights the increasing pressure on the government to respond to labor concerns in the country.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai Labor Solidarity Federation (TLSF) and its network partners orchestrated a march to Government House on International Workers' Day 2026 to submit these demands. The demands include urgent actions like raising the minimum wage, addressing energy issues, expediting the ratification of treaties with the International Labour Organization (ILO) as demanded by workers, halting the privatization of state enterprises, and reforming the social security system.
The labor groups also emphasized the need to eliminate short-term employment and called for genuine efforts to tackle air pollution. The demands were officially received by Mr. Nopporn Boonkaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, and Mr. Prasit Patangkaroo, Inspector General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, who represented the government during the submission.
