Bangkok: A beauty salon owner fell victim to a scam by a woman posing as a customer, resulting in a loss of over 7,000 baht. CCTV footage from an alley in Mueang District captured the incident, showing the woman entering the salon at 3:26 PM on September 5, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Noopian, the 59-year-old salon owner, recounted the encounter. The woman claimed her friend would come for a facial treatment, and she had an appointment for a steam treatment on the following Sunday. She alleged previous visits to the salon and proposed purchasing electrical appliances at employee discount rates. The offer included two air conditioners, a refrigerator, five rice cookers, and ten kettles for 7,500 baht.
Ms. Noopian initially resisted the proposal, citing a lack of funds and interest. However, the woman persistently persuaded her, emphasizing the urgency of the purchase. During the interaction, the woman repeatedly touched Ms. Noopian's arm, leaving her feeling disoriented and compelled to agree. Despite warnings from her sister-in-law and brother, Ms. Noopian borrowed the money and transferred it to the woman's account.
The scammer promised to return to the salon for a hair appointment and deliver the purchased items. Ms. Noopian waited from 6 PM, communicating via Line until late at night. The woman initially claimed delays due to weather but eventually stopped responding.
The following morning, realizing the scam, Ms. Noopian and her family reviewed CCTV footage and filed a police report. They urge the public to remain vigilant against similar scams, warning of individuals using deceptive tactics to exploit unsuspecting victims.
