Bangkok: The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has decided not to field a candidate for the upcoming Bangkok governor election, allowing M.L. Korkasivath to consider running as an independent candidate.
According to Thai News Agency, Yutthana Sritabutr, MP for Nong Khai and Secretary-General and spokesperson of the Palang Pracharath Party, addressed concerns regarding the party's absence in ministerial roles and committee chairmanships in the coalition government. He emphasized the party's commitment to cooperating with the government, supporting the Bhumjaithai Party as the main party, and Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as Prime Minister. Yutthana assured that the PPRP remains hopeful about future political opportunities despite current limitations.
Ms. Treenuch Thianthong, MP for Sa Kaeo and leader of the PPRP, expressed interest in participating in the House of Representatives' committees. The party has considered the allocation of positions, and discussions will continue within the government whip committee. With a considerable number of nominees, the allocation process is expected to take time, and a meeting is planned for next week to finalize the arrangements.
Regarding the Bangkok governor race, Yutthana revealed that although some party members, including Mom Luang Korkasivath Kasemsri, showed interest, the party decided against fielding a candidate. Limitations related to geographical areas, the recent general election, and party strengthening efforts influenced this decision. Consequently, Korkasivath is likely to pursue an independent candidacy.
Yutthana also affirmed the PPRP's intent to participate in future elections. He highlighted the party's dedication to its foundational aspirations and its plans to remain active throughout the remaining political term.
