Cyber CAT Initiative Shields Students from Online Fraud

Chiang mai: The 4th Regional Office of the Royal Thai Police has announced the successful outcomes of the Cyber CAT project, which aims to protect students from online fraud. This initiative is part of a broader strategy implemented by the Technology Crime Suppression Division 4, under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Phiwpaen, to empower students and youth with the knowledge to fend off online threats through the Cyber CAT (Cyber Children Assistant Team) project and the 'Hurry to Transfer, Smiling Thief' campaign.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Krittachan Bamrungrattanayot, Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division 4, has entrusted a team led by Pol. Col. Narawat Khampilo, along with other senior officers, to educate students on online safety. The initiative covered extensive sessions with 3,000 students at the Barbara McKinley Auditorium in Dara Wittayalai School, located in Tambon Watket, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai.

The educational lectures were held for different student groups: Secondary 3 and 6 students from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Primary 4-6 students from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Secondary 1 and 2 students from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Each session accommodated 1,000 students, focusing on 'Being Aware of Fraudulent Tricks and Online Crimes' under the Cyber CAT initiative. The campaign also encouraged the use of online reporting channels via hotline 1441, the installation of the Cyber Check application, and active engagement with the Cyber Police Facebook page to foster a community well-versed in cyber safety.

This proactive approach aims to significantly reduce technological crime risks by equipping students and educators with the necessary defenses against online fraud.
