Nakhon Phanom: Donations are being made to help improve the hearing of 9-year-old blue-eyed twin girls, while the School for the Deaf has expressed readiness to support their educational needs. The twins, who have good development in all areas except for hearing, are currently unable to speak and communicate through sign language. Relevant authorities are organizing a direct assistance fund account for the family. According to Thai News Agency, recent developments have focused on aiding the older twin, 'Nong Kaem', and her younger sister, 'Nong Gift'. Both twins can see normally but are deaf, attributed to Waardenburg syndrome, a rare genetic condition. Their mother, Nang Kam, a 42-year-old Laotian single mother, sells watermelons at Ban Tong Market, living under challenging conditions. Assistance has been pledged by several agencies and individuals, including donations for hearing aids and medical evaluations at Nakhon Phanom Hospital to address the twins' hearing impairment. Mr. Chayutphong Puchaniyaphong , from the Department of Social Development and Human Security in Nakhon Phanom Province, visited the family to provide support as per their entitlements. Each child currently receives 1,000 baht per month in disability welfare. Further inspections are planned to ensure comprehensive care, including housing assistance discussions with relevant agencies. Dr. Subin Prasobbua, Director of the Mukdahan Deaf Education Department, stated that the twins, currently in Grade 2, are entitled to free education until Grade 12. He affirmed that the twins exhibit normal brain development and interpersonal skills. Though they face hearing challenges, medical intervention is anticipated to benefit their development positively. The school is prepared to support the children fully, ensuring they receive necessary care and assistance.
