Anutin Asserts Prime Minister’s Sole Authority to Dissolve Parliament

Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, affirmed the Prime Minister's exclusive power to dissolve Parliament, emphasizing that this decision does not require consultation with others. He made these remarks while discussing the Bhumjaithai Party's announcement of its prime ministerial candidates, which includes Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin expressed support for Suphajee's nomination, suggesting it would bolster the party's appeal to its supporters. He highlighted the urgency for readiness, given the minority status of the government, signaling a potential election on the horizon. Anutin emphasized the importance of seeking individuals capable and willing to contribute to the nation's welfare, regardless of party affiliation. He clarified that he has not yet had discussions with Suphajee.

Addressing questions on whether a signal to dissolve Parliament had been communicated to coalition parties, Anutin reiterated that such a signal was unnecessary. He underscored that the Prime Minister holds the authority to propose the dissolution of Parliament, which ultimately requires the King's approval. The responsibility for submitting this request lies solely with the Prime Minister, without the need for external consultations.

When questioned about the possibility of an early dissolution of Parliament following the release of the Bhumjaithai Party's complete list of prime ministerial candidates, Anutin stated that as a minority government, there is a need to be prepared for swift elections. He stressed the importance of managing the country effectively within the limited time available and reaffirmed the commitment to doing their utmost in governance.
