Bangkok: Scotty Scheffler surpassed Tiger Woods to become the PGA Tour's all-time leading money earner after winning the Tour Championship at East Lake Country Club. Scheffler shot a 4-under-par 66 in the final round, for a total score of 16 under par, concluding the FedExCup Playoffs perfectly.
According to Thai News Agency, this victory earned Scheffler a $10 million FedExCup bonus, adding to his total prize money of $40 million, bringing his career PGA Tour total to $130,390,661. These figures allowed Scheffler to surpass Tiger Woods much faster than expected. Woods has accumulated career prize money of $120,999,166 and is one of only three players in history to surpass $100 million. Third place goes to Rory McIlroy, who has earned over $117 million.
In fact, Scheffler came close to overtaking Woods last week at the BMW Championship in St. Louis, where he was only $1,034,755 behind Woods in accumulated points. However, due to illness from hand, foot, and mouth disease that week, he finished tied for 12th place, receiving $426,250 in prize money, closing the gap to $608,505 behind Woods. He finally achieved this feat in this event, where he only needed to finish 13th or better to break the record.
