Bangkok: GLO STAR 2026 has unveiled the names of six young players selected to represent Thailand in a unique training opportunity with Avispa Fukuoka, a renowned J-League team in Japan. These players, chosen from a group of 30 talented individuals who participated in the GLO Cup 2026 competition, will undergo a six-month training program abroad.
According to Thai News Agency, the Government Lottery Office, in collaboration with the Thai Football Development Foundation, concluded the GLO STAR 2026 project by announcing the final six players. This decision follows a rigorous selection process at the GLO STAR Camp, where players were assessed on various aspects including potential, attitude, discipline, and learning ability.
Air Chief Marshal Piyapong Pue-on, Chairman of the Thai Football Development Foundation, and Air Chief Marshal Songsoem Maepherm, Board Member and Secretary of the Foundation, were present alongside Yusuke Iki, Director of the Avispa Fukuoka Academy, to make the announcement. The selection process highlighted the diverse talents and strengths of the 30 young footballers who were initially chosen from seven different regions across Thailand.
The selected players, divided into two age groups, include Pachara Ocharos, Lucas John Homer, and Pakphol Sripadtha from the U13 team, and Nattawat Dankasai, Warakorn Rinthachai, and Pakorn Boontha from the U15 team. These players will embark on their journey to Japan at the end of September to enhance their football skills and gain valuable life experiences.
Air Force Colonel Piyapong Phiwon, also known as "The Tuk," emphasized the challenges faced in selecting the final six players due to the high level of talent present. He noted that the opportunity to train in Japan extends beyond football, providing exposure to a new culture and environment that will contribute to the players' overall development.
"The Tuk" also conveyed words of encouragement to the 24 players who were not selected, stressing that their football journey is far from over. He urged them to continue developing their skills and pursuing their dreams, as there are numerous opportunities ahead.
The GLO STAR Camp, beyond being a selection ground, served as a platform for all 30 participants to engage in systematic training, teamwork, and personal growth. The six chosen players are set to refine their skills with Avispa Fukuoka, poised to return with enhanced abilities and broadened horizons.
