Bangkok: The Minister of Industry has directed the Permanent Secretary of Industry to clarify the issue surrounding the reopening of the Xin Ke Yuan factory. The factory's reopening follows amendments to relevant legal provisions, but concerns persist among the public and 10 steel associations.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Industry, announced that he has charged the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry with the task of providing further details on the permission granted by the Department of Industrial Works. This permission allows Xin Ke Yuan Steel Co., Ltd. to resume its steel rebar production. The factory had been previously closed due to safety standard issues, and the company has reportedly made necessary corrections and implemented measures in compliance with the Factory Act of 1992, leading to its reopening.
Despite the completion of the reopening process, there remain questions from the public and several parties, including 10 steel trade associations, particularly about the procedures involved in reopening the factory and the public safety implications of using the steel products. In response, the Ministry has been instructed to expedite the development of measures and guidelines regarding the use of steel from various production processes to enhance public confidence.
