Supamas and Ombudsman Unite to Tackle Consumer Protection Agendas

Bangkok: "Supamas" has joined forces with the Ombudsman to advance five urgent agendas, focusing on closing legal loopholes and expediting consumer compensation nationwide. This collaboration aims to enhance consumer protection and expedite relief in cases of online fraud and other consumer grievances.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting took place at the Office of the Ombudsman, where Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, engaged with Mr. Songsak Saichue, Chairman of the Ombudsman. The discussions centered on integrating consumer protection efforts and implementing the Ombudsman's recommendations to the Cabinet. Key officials present included Mr. Pradermchai Boonchuaylue, Advisor to the Minister; Mr. Ronnarong Poolpipat, Secretary-General of the OCPB; and other senior representatives.

The alignment of this initiative with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's policy underscores the focus on government coordination to alleviate public suffering. A significant outcome was the establishment of a collaborative mechanism to monitor, investigate, enforce laws, and provide remedies for consumer complaints. The meeting highlighted five key areas: cyber threats, processed and health products, agricultural product safety, school transport safety, and non-regular bus services.

Ms. Supamas appointed Mr. Pradermchai to oversee policy-level coordination, ensuring that the CPB works closely with the Ombudsman to track progress on these issues. This joint effort aims to prevent public concerns from being neglected by ensuring systematic information sharing among authorities.

Ms. Supamas emphasized the need for swift and fair redress for victims, pointing out the growing threats facing consumers, particularly from online scams. She thanked the Ombudsman for effectively addressing public grievances and stressed the importance of closing gaps in consumer protection.

Mr. Songsak expressed optimism that this collaboration will help implement systemic recommendations and reduce regulatory gaps. Mr. Ronnarong assured that the Consumer Protection Board is fully committed to law enforcement and coordination with relevant agencies.
