Kalasin: "Khaimook Chalermkwan" has successfully retained her presidency in the Kalasin Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) election, breaking her own previous record with over 300,000 votes. After the unofficial count from 1,668 polling stations, Ms. Chalermkwan, candidate number 1 from the Pheu Thai Party, secured 306,674 votes, equivalent to 81.8 percent of the total votes. Her main opponent, Mr. Prasert Boonruang from the Hug Paeng Beung Yaeng Kalasin group, garnered 68,404 votes, representing 18.2 percent.
According to Thai News Agency, the election saw a turnout of 51.13 percent, with 401,232 out of 784,701 eligible voters casting their ballots. Of these, 375,078 were deemed valid, 8,557 invalid, and 17,880 were blank. Ms. Chalermkwan's victory margin was 238,270 votes, a significant lead over her competitor.
The recent election results mark a new personal milestone for Ms. Chalermkwan, surpassing her previous record from the 2022 PAO election where she defeated Mr. Chanuwat Waramitr with 249,093 votes. This time, she received an additional 57,581 votes, a 23.1 percent increase from her last tally.
Ms. Chalermkwan's re-election follows her resignation from the presidency on August 13, 2026, before the end of her term. Her decision to run again has proven successful, as the unofficial counts show her retaining the presidency with a new record for the highest number of votes. The official confirmation of the election results is still pending.
