Bangkok: This year's Songkran Festival in Phuket was a lively affair, drawing tourists from around the world to partake in the traditional water festivities. Patong Beach became a central hub of celebration, with activities extending until dawn, including alms giving, the bathing of Buddha images, and Thai circle dancing under a specially installed water tunnel on the beach.
According to Thai News Agency, the day at Patong Beach started with a vibrant atmosphere as people gathered to offer alms to monks and pour water over Buddha images, a traditional act believed to bring good fortune. The festivities continued with a traditional Thai circle dance, encouraging community participation under a refreshing water tunnel, creating a lively and joyous setting.
Throughout the morning, tourists equipped with water guns, bowls, and large buckets joined in the fun, splashing water on each other amidst laughter and smiles. Bangla Road, known for its nightlife, turned into a hotspot for Songkran activities, attracting numerous foreign tourists who eagerly participated in the water play, adding to the festive spirit of the Thai New Year.
Beyond Patong Beach, Phuket City Municipality hosted a variety of Songkran events, starting with 'Songkran Ban Chan, Songkran Kebaya, Wearing Batik Cloth 2568' in the historic Phuket Old Town. This event featured traditional activities such as the bathing of Buddha images and water pouring ceremonies to seek blessings from the elderly.
In the evening, in front of Limelight Shopping Mall on Deebook Road, 'Songkran Noel Phuket 2025' focused on the theme of polite water play. Meanwhile, the Queen Sirikit 72nd Anniversary Park, also known as Dragon Square, hosted the 'Water Festival 2025, Water Festival', providing another attraction for tourists. To ensure a smooth and safe celebration, police officers and related agencies were deployed to oversee the events and assist tourists throughout the festivities.
