Bangkok: The Ministry of Culture, through the Department of Cultural Promotion, extends an invitation to the public for the "Songkran at My Home, Thai Colors, Happiness Across the World" event at Wat Suthat. The event encourages visitors to engage in traditional activities such as making merit and bathing Buddha images.
According to Thai News Agency, Wat Suthat Thepwararam Ratchaworamahawihan is experiencing a significant influx of people coming to worship and make merit. Visitors are paying homage to Phra Sri Sakyamuni in the Royal Vihara, the city's guardian Buddha, and other sacred objects. Many individuals are taking advantage of Songkran Day to begin the new year with good fortune.
This year's Songkran celebration is unique as the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Wat Suthat, has organized the "Songkran Ban Chan" event, featuring "Colors of Thai Style, Happiness Across the World". The festival includes activities such as making merit, bathing Buddha images, and building sand pagodas.
A family from Bangkok shared that they chose to stay in the city during Songkran to make merit at the temple. Their son was eager to build a sand pagoda for good luck before participating in the traditional water activities later in the day. The parents expressed their appreciation for the temple's organized events, which allow them to actively engage in preserving Thai traditions.
The festival's opening ceremony, taking place this afternoon, will feature performances from Miss Universe Thailand 2024, along with artists and celebrities dedicated to preserving Thai culture. An award ceremony will also be held for the sand pagoda building contest and the Songkran water pouring tray contest. Additional performances will be provided by the Buddhist School at Wat Suthat, and the event will offer a community market, showcasing goods from well-known stars, and continuous Thai entertainment from the Kai Kaew Drama Group over four days.
The Songkran Festival 'Colors of Thai Style, Happiness Across the World' will be held until April 15th, offering a rich celebration of Thai culture and traditions.
