Kathmandu: A Sherpa miraculously crawled down from the summit of Mount Everest after being missing for 6 days. Dawa Sherpa, a renowned Sherpa guide from Nepal, was miraculously rescued after being missing for six days on Mount Everest. His family had already begun religious ceremonies to send his soul off.
According to Thai News Agency, Dawa Sherpa, also known as "Hillary Dawa," a 52-year-old experienced guide, has been missing since May 29th while descending from Camp 4 at an altitude of approximately 25,000 feet. After an unsuccessful attempt to guide a Polish climber to the summit, he separated from the group to rest along the way but never returned to base camp with the climber.
The rescue helicopters sent in the initial search found no trace of Dawa, as it was suspected he might be trapped in a crack in the ice. His wife and daughter became convinced he was dead, realizing that being stranded on a mountain in sub-zero temperatures at such an altitude without life support equipment was impossible. They began a second day of funeral rites and prayers for Dawa's soul.
However, this morning, a cleanup and trail management team from the Sagarmatta Pollution Control Board (SPCC) spotted a figure slowly crawling and sliding down the Khumbu Icefall, just above the base camp. The manager of 8K Expeditions, a local tour and climbing agency, stated that this was a case of self-preservation, with Dawa using salvaged ladders found around the camp to cross deep ice crevices over the past six days.
After receiving initial assistance with food and water, Dawa Sherpa was airlifted by emergency rescue helicopter directly from the Everest area to a hospital in Kathmandu. Doctors reported that he remained conscious and could speak slowly, but found frostbite on several parts of his body, particularly his fingers. They hailed Dawa's story as one of the "rarest miracles" in the history of Everest climbing.
Data shows that this year, five climbers have died while attempting to summit Mount Everest, and over 1,000 climbers have successfully summited the 8,849-meter peak, setting a new record.
