Pichai Lertpongadisorn Secures Second Term as Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization President

Chiang Mai: The recently concluded provincial administrative organization elections in Thailand have brought intense competition and compelling outcomes across the nation. After an evening of high tension and anticipation, Mr. Pichai Lertpongadisorn, known as Senator Kong, emerged victorious in Chiang Mai, securing a second term as the president. Running under the Pheu Thai Party, Mr. Pichai celebrated the win with his supporters, who donned red shirts at his residence in Mae Hia Subdistrict.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, who supported Mr. Pichai during the campaign, made several inquiries about the ongoing vote count. The atmosphere was electric as Mr. Pichai watched the numbers fluctuate, competing closely with the candidate from the Prachachon Party. By 10 p.m., Mr. Pichai had declared his victory with an unofficial count of nearly 380,000 votes, outpacing his competitor Dr. Phanu-at by a margin of 20,000 votes. As a result, Mr. Pichai continues in his role as the president of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization.

In an emotional moment, several People's Party candidates expressed their joy upon being elected to the council. Mr. Phan-at Chairat, despite losing, graciously congratulated Mr. Pichai and thanked his supporters for their honest votes. The Prachachon Party managed to secure seats in 14 out of 42 districts in the council.

In Chiang Rai, independent candidate Ms. Athitathorn Wanchaithanawong led the race for the presidency of the Provincial Administrative Organization. Initially trailing Ms. Salakcharit Tiyapairat of the Pheu Thai Party, Ms. Athitathorn gained momentum halfway through the vote count. By 10:48 p.m., with over 94% of votes tallied, she had a significant lead with 246,593 votes, securing her win against Ms. Salakcharit, who garnered 227,765 votes.

In Sisaket, Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul celebrated the victory of Mr. Wichit Traisaranakul, the new president of the Provincial Administrative Organization. Mr. Anutin expressed his gratitude to the voters and shared light-hearted moments with the winning team, including a playful exchange involving a barrel and a basket of oranges.

Meanwhile, in Narathiwat, Mr. Kuseng Yawohasan claimed a sixth consecutive term as president with 187,051 votes. The election saw a 47.46% voter turnout, with no reports of electoral misconduct, marking a significant achievement for the province.
