Narathiwat Launches Blue Village Project to Declare COVID-19-Free Villages

Narathiwat Governor Jessada Jitrat has presented blue flags as a symbol for COVID-19-free villages to boost the morale of local residents and encourage them to be aware of protecting themselves and their areas from the virus.

The Governor on 11 August 2021 presented blue flags to 10 villages and one community in Tak Bai district of Narathiwat. The “Blue Village” project was launched to promote the participation of local people in COVID-19 management, under the concept of joint efforts to help ease the COVID-19 situation.

Concerned about the local transmission of COVID-19, Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed each province to carry out its own Blue Village project in order to encourage local residents to help one another and keep their guard up against the disease.

Under this project, campaigns must be launched for local villagers to strictly comply with DMHTT (Distancing, Mask-wearing, Hand-washing, Testing, and the Thai Chana tracking app) measures, imposed by the Ministry of Public Health, and to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to achieve herd immunity.

Moreover, the villages to be recognized as COVID-19-free areas must promote the planting and use of herbs to treat and prevent COVID-19. Apart from presenting blue flags to representatives of the 10 villages and one community in Tak Bai district, the Narathiwat Governor also gave them herbal medicine against the virus.

The assessment of the project is divided into two parts, comprising the process and results, such as the number and the percentage of patients and that of the local population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
