Bangkok: The Ministry of Energy has mandated enhanced security measures at gas stations across the three southern border provinces, aiming to prevent further incidents amid ongoing unrest. The directive also highlights the importance of managing fuel reserves to guarantee adequate supplies.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Veerapat Kiattifuengfu, Deputy Permanent Secretary and spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy, has instructed local officials, including provincial energy officers and oil retailers, to work closely with security agencies. The primary focus is on ensuring the safety of station employees and customers while maintaining strict surveillance at gas stations and strategic energy locations. Additionally, continuous reporting is required to enable the central government to provide immediate assistance if necessary.
Regarding fuel management, the Department of Energy Business and Section 7 Oil Traders have been tasked with assessing oil stocks in the southern provinces. This initiative aims to ensure sufficient reserves and prevent potential shortages due to road closures or transportation disruptions. They have also been instructed to develop contingency plans for transporting fuel via alternative routes to sustain energy security in the region.
Mr. Veerapat expressed his condolences over the recent incidents and emphasized the need for coordinated efforts with security forces to monitor gas stations closely. He assured the public that contingency plans and sufficient fuel supplies are in place to meet all demands.
