Thai Men’s Volleyball Team Falls to Australia in 2026 Asian Championship Quarterfinals

Kitakyushu: The Thai men's volleyball team faced a challenging match against Australia, resulting in their elimination from the 2026 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship quarterfinals. According to Thai News Agency, the championship, held at the Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium in Japan, saw Thailand, ranked 48th globally, compete against Australia, ranked 42nd. The Thai team, under the guidance of South Korean head coach Park Ki-won, had an impressive start by winning all three of their first-round matches. Australia, on the other hand, had secured two victories and faced one defeat in the initial round. In the quarterfinals, Coach Park fielded a strong starting lineup, including players Napadech Pinijdee, Anuchit Pakdeekaew, Thanat Bamrungpakdee, Chaiwat Thungkam, Thupdit Phraput, Boonyarit Wongthorn, and Nakarin Inthanu. Despite their determined performance, the Thai team was unable to overcome Australia's height advantage, losing in straight sets with scores of 22-25, 24-26, and 19-25. This defeat marke d the end of Thailand's journey in the championship, while Australia progressed to the semifinals. Australia's next opponent will be the winner of the match between Iran and Taiwan, with the semifinals slated for September 12th.
