Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce is taking swift action to assist flood victims in the southern regions by implementing two phases designed to alleviate suffering and stimulate economic recovery.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry has established a War Room to closely monitor the flood situation, coordinating with the government's Emergency Operations Center. Provincial commerce officials have been directed to expedite their efforts in preparing relief measures. These efforts include replenishing essential goods and organizing economic recovery activities to commence once the floodwaters subside.
Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, the Minister of Commerce, has detailed two urgent phases of action. The first phase involves collaboration with security agencies and the administrative sectors in each province to provide relief in disaster-affected areas. This phase includes ensuring the availability of essential supplies, supporting shelters, and maintaining a stock of crucial products like eggs, milk, and ready-to-eat food. Additionally, relief bags containing items such as instant noodles, canned fish, bottled oil, and drinking water will be prepared for distribution.
The second phase focuses on economic recovery post-flood. The Ministry plans to organize Blue Flag activities to help reduce living expenses by selling essential products at low prices. Moreover, efforts will be made to increase income and trade opportunities through opening sales points, organizing exhibitions, and supporting local product sales and border trade. Access to funding sources, such as the Exim Bank, will also be provided to help revitalize businesses.
The Minister emphasized that all units under her jurisdiction, along with provincial commerce offices, will work proactively with the Emergency Operations Center. Plans will be adjusted according to the evolving situation to ensure that assistance is delivered to the public swiftly and effectively.
