Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for unstable weather conditions predicted between 23-25 February, characterized by thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail, followed by a drop in temperatures.
According to Thai News Agency, the department has identified easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, affecting the eastern and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. Upper-level westerly winds are also impacting the northern and western parts of the central region, leading to thunderstorms in some areas of upper Thailand. Residents, especially in the northern and central regions, including Bangkok, are advised to be cautious due to health risks associated with changing weather conditions and the potential dangers of thunderstorms. Farmers are encouraged to take preventive measures to protect agricultural products from potential damage.
The northeast monsoon and easterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea are of moderate intensity, causing sporadic thunderstorms in the South. The lower Gulf of Thailand is experiencing sea waves about 2 meters high, with even higher waves in areas affected by thunderstorms. Sailors navigating the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas prone to thunderstorms.
Moreover, during 23-25 February 2025, a moderate to strong high-pressure area or cold air mass from China is expected to cover the Northeast and the South China Sea. This will result in southern and southeastern winds drawing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, impacting the upper part of Thailand. Concurrently, westerly wind waves from Myanmar will move through the North, upper Northeast, and upper Laos. These conditions will lead to unstable weather in upper Thailand, with thunderstorms, lightning, strong gusts of wind, and hail, particularly in the North and Northeast. A subsequent temperature drop is anticipated. In the South, increased rain, heavy rainfall, and very heavy rain in certain areas are expected. The lower Gulf of Thailand will experience strong waves, ranging from 2-3 meters, with waves exceeding 3 meters in stormy areas.
Dust accumulation is also a concern during this period. The upper part of Thailand is experiencing moderate to high levels of dust and smog accumulation, with an increasing trend due to weakening winds and reduced rainfall in some areas.
