Bangkok Songkran Festival Operations Progress with Key Missions Underway

Bangkok: Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has reported that the Songkran festival in Bangkok is proceeding smoothly, with a focus on three primary missions: ensuring safety, locating missing persons, and monitoring flooding around the clock.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chadchart, along with Pol. Gen. Adit Ngamjitsuksri, an advisor to the Governor, inspected the operations at the Bangkok Incident Command Center during Songkran 2025 at the Suthat Room in Bangkok City Hall, Phra Nakhon District. The coordination between city officials and police officers has been effective in maintaining the safety of the event area. Notably, 120 AI cameras capable of facial recognition were installed on Silom Road. These cameras feed data to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Royal Thai Police for inspection and facilitate the arrest of individuals with outstanding warrants. This technology has already led to the apprehension of several missing persons.

Advisor Adit highlighted the situation in Soi Wat Weluwanaram, Don Mueang District, where police successfully intercepted more than 1,000 pickup trucks carrying water intended for the area. The congestion caused by people playing in water, local residents, and numerous motorcycles has been challenging. In Thawi Watthana District, the Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 9 worked closely with the district director to intercept water trucks and confiscate loudspeakers and water pumps due to concerns over water quality. Efforts to curb illegal vending on sidewalks have been successful, with police taking a firm stance against offenders.

Governor Chadchart concluded by emphasizing the city's vigilance and preparedness for events, whether it's during festivals or in managing flood prevention. He assured residents that the situation in Bangkok remains under control and that the city is always ready to respond to any developments.
