Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has confirmed that the Chanthaburi-Trat border crossings will remain closed, with no scheduled discussions with Cambodia on the horizon. This decision comes amid Cambodia’s request to reopen the crossing, which is under the jurisdiction of the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Protection Command.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin emphasized that any negotiations with Cambodia would require the restoration of diplomatic relations, a process that has yet to begin. He stated, “We have not yet scheduled any meetings. We have only received reports on this matter, and there is nothing to report yet.”
When asked if he would maintain his stance on keeping the border checkpoints closed, Anutin affirmed his position with a simple, “Yes, yes.” He pointed out that the current situation does not involve formal diplomatic negotiations, noting that only embassy staff are present at this stage. Anutin highlighted the importance of taking matters step by step and reiterated that diplomatic relations must be restored before any meaningful discussions can take place.
