Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan Opens Royal Barge Procession Training in Bangkok

Bangkok: The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy presided over the opening ceremony of the Royal Barge Procession training exercise. Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, led the ceremony in preparation for the Royal Barge Procession during the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony in 2026, marking the 4th cycle birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on June 3, 2026. High-ranking naval officers and 2,200 personnel, including those involved in the procession and oarsmen, participated in the event at the Monument of King Ananda Mahidol near Rama VIII Bridge in the Bang Phlat District.

According to Thai News Agency, Admiral Fuengchan addressed the troops, emphasizing the importance of their role in ensuring the procession proceeds smoothly and with respect. He urged all personnel to prepare themselves and dedicate their efforts to make the event a magnificent and dignified occasion, admired by both Thai and foreign audiences. The Royal Barge Procession has historically brought prestige to the Royal Thai Navy and is anticipated to be etched in history.

This year's procession will feature a force of 2,200 personnel from various Royal Thai Navy units manning 52 royal barges, arranged in five rows and three lines. The barges will span a length of 1,280 meters and a width of 90 meters, with the Suphannahong Royal Barge leading as the main vessel. Other notable barges include the Narai Song Suban Royal Barge from King Rama IX's reign, the Anekchat Phuchong Royal Barge, and the Anantanagaraj Royal Barge, which will carry the royal Kathin robes.

Rehearsals for the procession will include both minor and major sessions leading up to the actual ceremony on November 6, 2026. The rehearsal schedule comprises ten minor rehearsals from August to October and two full rehearsals on October 21 and 28, 2026. The public is invited to watch these rehearsals and welcome His Majesty from both sides of the Chao Phraya River, from Krung Thonburi Bridge to Wat Arun Ratchawararam.

The public can witness the rehearsal along the entire procession route. Viewing areas include the Thonburi side, under the Rama VIII Bridge, the 72nd Birthday Anniversary Park next to Siriraj Hospital, Wat Rakhang Khositariam pier, and Wat Arun Ratchawararam. On the Phra Nakhon side, spectators can gather at Santi Chai Prakan Park next to Phra Sumen Fort, Tha Maharaj, and Tha Chang, starting at 3:00 PM as the procession begins from the Rama VIII Bridge, concluding at Wat Arun Ratchawararam.
