Bangkok: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to hold a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump tonight at 9:30 PM local time, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow confirmed on Friday, noting the U.S. is expected to push for a ceasefire.
According to Thai News Agency, Sihasak stated that while the U.S. likely wishes to see a cessation of hostilities, the issue is complex and does not require immediate haste. The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister consulting with the military to determine Thailand's stance on the matter.
A significant part of the discussion will involve clarifying Thailand's actions to the U.S., particularly in response to accusations from Cambodia. Sihasak mentioned that there has been ongoing provocation, whereas Thailand aims to maintain peaceful coexistence.
Sihasak asserted that Thailand is open to listening to any proposals from the U.S., but any decision made will prioritize the national interest.
