Bangkok: Famous Thai athletes have rallied to show support for military officers and civilians stationed at the tense Thai-Cambodian border by posting messages of encouragement on social media platforms.
According to Thai News Agency, 'Jay' Chanathip Songkrasin, a midfielder for the Thai national team from BG Pathum United, took to his personal Facebook page to share a public relations image of the Royal Thai Army. Accompanied by the message, 'I would like to send encouragement to all Thai soldiers and Thai brothers and sisters in the area,' his post seeks to uplift those stationed at the border.
Similarly, Thai national women's volleyball players 'Nan' Thatdao Nuekjang and 'Bumbim' Chatchu-on Moksri echoed such sentiments. They also shared the same image of Thai soldiers, adding, 'I would like to give encouragement to all Thai soldiers for our Thailand,' while inviting people to donate blood for frontline soldiers.
Another show of solidarity came from Uncle Newin's page, managed by Mr. Newin Chidchob, president of Buriram United. His message read, "Buriram brothers and sisters, whose homes are not safe? Come stay with Uncle Newin at Chang Circuit. Thais never abandon each other," offering shelter to those affected by border tensions.
Moreover, the Banchamek Gym page, associated with renowned Thai boxer Buakaw Banchamek, posted a strong condemnation of the Cambodian side's actions. The post criticized the use of weapons against civilian targets, accompanied by pictures from the incident and a statement from the Royal Thai Army.
