One misconception is that breastfeeding is an easy task. In reality, both mothers and infants require time and practice to perfect the latching technique, which is essential for effective breastfeeding. Another myth is that breastfeeding leads to sore nipples, while the actual issue often lies in improper latching or holding techniques. Mothers are advised not to wash their nipples before breastfeeding, as this natural area provides beneficial bacteria and scent recognition for infants. Contrary to the belief that newborns should be separated from their mothers post-birth, immediate skin-to-skin contact is vital for initiating breastfeeding. Additionally, breastfeeding mothers are encouraged to maintain a balanced diet rather than restricting to bland foods, as exercise does not alter milk taste. Concerns about missing the initial breastfeeding window are unfounded. Mothers can start breastfeeding whenever feasible, with frequent contact aiding the process. The use of formula alongside breastfeeding is not discouraged, and most mothers can produce sufficient milk with proper feeding techniques. Mothers can typically continue breastfeeding while sick, as antibodies are transferred to the infant through milk. While some medications are not safe, many can be used with appropriate consultation.
