Nakhon ratchasima: The Fine Arts Department has confirmed that the historic Ta Kwai Castle, which suffered damage during military confrontations, can be restored to its original state. The director of the Fine Arts Department Region 10 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Mr. Tosaporn Srisaman, announced this development.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Tosaporn, who oversees historical sites in the southern Isaan provinces including Surin, Buriram, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Chaiyaphum, stated that Ta Kwai Temple was used as a bunker by Cambodian soldiers during clashes with Thai troops, resulting in significant damage. The upper section of the temple has collapsed, prompting the need for restoration.
Mr. Tosaporn explained that a committee has been established to inspect historical sites along the Thai-Cambodian border. The committee will conduct a detailed assessment and determine the restoration costs once the situation stabilizes. There are concerns that other historical sites, such as Ta Muen Thom and Khana temples, may have also been impacted by the conflict.
The director assured that Prasat Ta Kwai could be restored to its original condition. The restoration process will follow the standard procedure used for other historical sites, beginning with excavation and the creation of restoration plans and specifications. Mr. Tosaporn emphasized that while restoration is feasible, it is contingent upon the stabilization of the current situation.
