Severe Flooding Leaves Trang Villages Deserted

Trang: People fled their homes to escape the floods, turning the village into a deserted village. Flooding in Trang has begun to ease after the rain stopped last night, but communities along the Trang River are still inundated, with water almost reaching their roofs. Residents have rushed to evacuate their homes, leaving the village deserted for weeks.

According to Thai News Agency, the flooding situation in Trang Province has begun to ease after the rain stopped last night. However, large masses of water from several districts converged in the Trang River before flowing out to sea, causing communities along the riverside, a low-lying basin-like catchment area, to experience the worst flooding in six years. Water levels rose 2-3 meters, particularly in the Wat Chaeng community in Mueang Trang District. Most of the villages were single-story, with water reaching the roofs of nearly 100 houses.

Up to 95 percent of the villagers, or 300-400 people, had to abandon their homes and take shelter at Wat Chaeng, a deserted village for weeks. They have left their pets, such as ducks, chickens, geese, birds, and cats, on the roofs and have been brought to feed them on time by boat. It is expected that water levels will gradually recede within 10-15 days, barring further rain or rising tides, before returning to normal. Villagers are in dire need of medicine for athlete's foot, food, and drinking water.
