Hat yai: Ban Na Khuan Lang School in Hat Yai Municipality has been severely affected by flooding, with water levels rising over 3 meters for five consecutive days. The flooding has caused significant damage to the school infrastructure, including teaching equipment, ceilings, and glass, which require urgent repairs.
According to Thai News Agency, the floodwaters receded and completely dried up only last night, allowing teachers to begin assessing the damage this morning. They found the school covered in mud, with essential equipment almost entirely destroyed. The teachers expressed the urgency of cleaning up the school to prepare for its reopening, though a definite date for this remains uncertain. The school, which accommodates over 800 students, faces additional challenges as most students' homes have been severely flooded. Many students, who are already economically disadvantaged, lack essential items such as textbooks, uniforms, and even clothes, leaving them unsure about returning to school.
In related incidents, Rescue Hook 31 has been active in the region, assisting individuals affected by the floods. They rescued a mother and her 3-month-old child who were trapped at home without contact with the father, who was working in another province. After a successful rescue, the father was able to reunite with his family.
Additionally, Hook 31 rescue workers, in collaboration with nurses, facilitated emergency deliveries for pregnant women trapped by the floods. Three pregnant women, unable to reach the hospital, were transported on a truck. During the journey, two of them went into labor. The rescue team and nurses successfully delivered one baby en route, while the other woman gave birth immediately upon reaching the hospital. The efforts included clearing a two-kilometer path through flooded roads, ensuring the safe passage of the emergency vehicle.
