Hat yai: Confirming the real picture, police stopped a robbery at a convenience store in District 8, Hat Yai. Special Operations Unit 54 of the Thai Border Police intervened in the incident, highlighting the Royal Thai Police's stance on severe penalties for crimes committed during floods.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepo, deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, confirmed the authenticity of images depicting police in life jackets, armed and ready to raid. These images were taken by Special Operations Unit 54, who were investigating the robbery report at a convenience store in Soi Ratthana Uthit 3, also referred to as District 8, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province.
The deputy police spokesperson detailed that the 191 center received a report of five robbers breaking into the convenience store, leading to an informant escaping through the roof. Consequently, the Special Operations Unit Dan Thai 54 was contacted to navigate the floodwaters and investigate the scene. Armed with weapons and shields, they discovered the store to be a three-story commercial building with residential areas above. The robbers had fled, leaving the shop floors scattered with items. Nearby residents confirmed witnessing the crime, and investigators are actively pursuing the suspects.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat noted that the Thai Border Special Operations Unit 54 had traveled from Yala Province to assist with flood evacuations and provide food to affected residents in Hat Yai District. Positioned in Hat Yai City, they were deployed by Provincial Police Region 9 to secure the safety of the community in light of the Region 8 incident.
