Bangkok: "Sergeant Oho," the man who shot and killed his wife, a kindergarten teacher at Nong Pla Lai Municipal Kindergarten, surrendered to police at 6:20 AM after over 20 hours of negotiation efforts.
According to Thai News Agency, the tragic incident occurred when Police Lieutenant Thasapong, known as "Lieutenant Oh," fatally shot his wife in Bang Lamung, Chonburi province, and subsequently barricaded himself inside his home. Negotiations initiated by authorities throughout the day were initially unsuccessful. As evening approached, Lieutenant Oh's son, Police Sergeant Major Rachata Thongthach, or "Folk," arrived from the southern region. In an emotional plea, he attempted to communicate with his father through a window, expressing love and urging him to come out. Despite these efforts, there was no response from inside, prompting authorities to withdraw Folk for his safety.
The authorities, aiming to resolve the situation peacefully, had initially considered deploying relatives, close friends, and respected individuals for negotiation attempts, but were unable to establish contact with Lieutenant Oh. Ensuring the safety of all involved remained a top priority, with the area secured to prevent further harm.
Ultimately, after continued persuasion from his son, Sergeant Oh surrendered early this morning. Appearing exhausted and stressed, he turned himself in without resistance and unarmed, with police recovering his weapons at the scene.
