Police Intercept Vehicle Carrying 1.2 Million Methamphetamine Pills in Udon Thani

Udon thani: Police Region 4 investigators intercepted a vehicle transporting a large shipment of 1.2 million methamphetamine pills. Hoping to get rich quick, a 22-year-old man accepted a job to transport the shipment in exchange for 100,000 baht. Police from Region 4 pursued and apprehended him in his car while it was stopped at a traffic light in the middle of Udon Thani city.

According to Thai News Agency, the police from the Investigation Division 1, Investigation Bureau, Provincial Police Region 4, pursued a suspicious white Suzuki Ciaz car with Phetchabun license plates. The vehicle was carrying methamphetamine from Nong Khai Province towards Udon Thani Province. Upon reaching the Nong Dae railway crossing on Mittraphap Road in Kut Sra Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province, the suspicious vehicle stopped at a red light. Police, having caught up, intercepted the vehicle, surrounded and searched it, arresting the driver, 22-year-old Thasnaphon. Inside the car, they found 1.2 million methamphetamine pills, wrapped in black garbage bags and concealed in clear plastic, hidden under the back seats and in the trunk.

Mr. Thasnaphon confessed that he was unemployed and was hired by a Laotian national to transport methamphetamine, which had been left on the banks of the Mekong River, to a warehouse in Lom Kao District, Phetchabun Province, before transporting it to Bangkok. A pickup truck was driving ahead to scout the route for checkpoints when he was apprehended. He stated that he would receive 100,000 baht if he successfully delivered the drugs to the warehouse and that this was his first time doing so.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect had been hired to transport methamphetamine on 2-3 occasions, from the Mekong River to a warehouse in Lom Kao District, Phetchabun Province. Therefore, he was charged with "producing, importing, exporting, selling, or possessing Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine) without permission" and handed over to Udon Thani City Police Station for legal proceedings.
