Phumtham Vejjayachai Leads Talks on Thai-Laos Border Issues

Vientiane: Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, led a delegation to an extraordinary meeting of the Thai-Laos General Border Peacekeeping Committee (GBC) in Vientiane, where discussions are anticipated to focus on border demarcation, suppression of call center gangs, and illegal activities along the border.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham, serving as Chairman of the Thai-Laos GBC Committee, and his delegation arrived at Wattay Airport, Vientiane Capital, aboard an Air Force aircraft. They were greeted by representatives from the Ministry of Defense of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).

The delegation then proceeded to Holiday Inn and Suites Vientiane for a meeting with Lt. Gen. Khamliang Uthakaisone, Minister of National Defense, in a private discussion before co-chairing the 1/2025 extraordinary meeting of the General Border Peacekeeping Committee (GBC) between Thailand and Laos. The meeting is expected to address issues of international cooperation on border management, efforts to combat call center gangs, illegal activities along the border, and military training.
