Kuala Lumpur: The Prime Minister and her delegation have arrived in Malaysia to participate in the 46th ASEAN Summit, with a focus on advancing an ASEAN characterized by inclusive participation and sustainability for the region's 670 million residents.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, the Government Spokesperson, announced that Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand, along with her delegation, reached Kuala Lumpur at 21.50 hrs. local time to engage in the summit and its related meetings. The delegation includes prominent figures such as Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, and Mr. Marist Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs. They were received by HE Dr. Zaliha Mustafa and Dato' Rozainor bin Ramli from the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office.
The summit is set to commence on Monday, 26 May 2025, with the Prime Minister attending both the Plenary and Informal Retreat sessions. Following the morning sessions, a luncheon for leaders from the 10 ASEAN countries is planned. In the afternoon, discussions will take place involving ASEAN leaders and representatives from AIPA, ASEAN Youth, and ASEAN-BAC.
Mr. Jirayu noted that the Prime Minister will participate in the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future and attend a dinner hosted by the Malaysian Prime Minister. The summit is organized under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', with a collective endorsement of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 expected. This vision aims to guide ASEAN through the next two decades, addressing regional challenges such as the situations in Myanmar and the South China Sea, and external issues like US tax policies.
Thailand's agenda includes promoting regional integration to withstand global economic shifts, enhancing connectivity, and fostering ASEAN tourism and Digital Trade Logistics. The Prime Minister plans to bolster cooperation against transnational crimes, particularly in combating drugs and online scams, to improve the quality of life across ASEAN. The member nations of ASEAN include Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brunei.
