Bangkok: "Phumtham" announced to proceed with suppressing the call center gang, coordinating with neighboring countries for the safety of Thai people and the world to be free from fraudulent networks, according to the policy of "Prime Minister Paethongtarn".
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, emphasized that the call center gang problem is a complex transnational crime affecting both Thai people and the global community. The government recognizes that addressing this issue involves more than merely arresting culprits; it requires a systematic approach, including dismantling criminal group operations, assisting victims, and fostering international cooperation to prevent future incidents. Such a significant problem cannot be resolved by one nation alone.
Previously, the Thai government has implemented proactive measures in collaboration with China and Myanmar through the 'Cutting off electricity, cutting off the internet, cutting off oil' action plan, focusing on five key areas to diminish the call center gang's capabilities. Cooperation did not stop there, as Mr. Phumtham coordinated with the Minister of National Defense of Laos during an official visit to Thailand. This led to agreements to combat drugs, human trafficking, and cyber crimes, culminating in a joint memorandum of understanding between the countries.
Additionally, to avert the relocation of these criminal networks, Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelabutr, the National Police Inspector General, was instructed to urgently participate in a planning meeting with the Royal Cambodian Police. Pol. Gen. Thatchai reported on three key conclusions from the meeting:
Firstly, the suppression of call center gangs will be intensified, aiming to locate and arrest individuals at various gang locations. The Thai police will repatriate Thai nationals for legal proceedings.
Secondly, there will be collaborative efforts to assist Thai victims of human trafficking in reuniting with their families promptly.
Finally, coordination between Thailand and Cambodia will be strengthened to swiftly tackle the call center gang problem. This operational planning meeting reflects the collaboration between Thailand and Cambodia to decisively handle the issue.
'Solving this problem is not easy because it involves laws, transnational crimes, and international relations,' stated Mr. Phumtham, underscoring the complexity of the issue. The government, led by Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra, remains committed to safeguarding Thai citizens from fraudulent networks. Mr. Phumtham assured that the government would persist in its efforts until the problem is eradicated, demonstrating progress and determination to protect the populace.
