Bangkok: The Election Commission (EC) has received an urgent letter from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) concerning allegations of collusion in the selection process of senators. The matter is currently being processed before it is forwarded to the EC for further consideration.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, Chairman of the EC, disclosed that the DSI has communicated the progress of its investigation into complaints regarding collusion in the selection of senators. The DSI's investigation has gathered evidence suggesting the existence of a network involved in secret society activities and money laundering. Consequently, the DSI is determined to pursue further investigation into criminal offenses identified in the case. Chairman Ittiporn confirmed that the EC office is compiling the necessary information and preparing its opinions to present to the EC meeting for consideration, adhering to the EC's established procedures.
The EC office has not yet submitted the matter to the EC committee, as it remains under consideration within the office.
Reports indicate that Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, sent a response letter dated February 18, 2025, to the Director-General of the DSI. This letter addressed the receipt of complaints regarding illegal activities related to election processes and political parties. The Secretary-General's letter clarified that the issue had not been presented for EC consideration under Section 49 of the Organic Act on the Election Commission, due to ambiguity over whether the DSI had accepted the case for review.
