Manila: The Philippines has declared Typhoon Kalmaegi a national disaster following severe destruction and loss of life. Over 140 people have died, with more than 500,000 households reported damaged.
According to Thai News Agency, on November 6, 2025, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos announced the state of national disaster to address the impact of Typhoon Kalmaegi and to prepare for the anticipated arrival of Typhoon Phongwong. The decision came after a recommendation from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee.
Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in the Philippines early Thursday, resulting in at least 140 fatalities and leaving 127 individuals missing. The declaration aims to bolster recovery efforts and readiness as the nation braces for the next storm, which could escalate into a super typhoon over the weekend.
