Bangkok: The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has successfully intercepted a parcel containing over 10 kg of heroin that was en route to Taiwan. The seizure was made in collaboration with an international shipping company, highlighting a significant operation to curb drug trafficking.
According to Thai News Agency, the ONCB, alongside the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF), uncovered 13.89 kilograms of heroin concealed within 110 baseballs. The parcel, prepared for shipment at an international shipping company in Bangkok, was traced back to Nong Khai Province in northeastern Thailand before being forwarded to Bangkok for transport to Taiwan.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Panurat Lakboon, Secretary-General of the ONCB, reported that this operation is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the collaboration between government agencies and the private sector. From July 23-25, 2025, Mr. Prin Mekanan, Director of the Office of Narcotics Suppression, chaired a workshop aimed at enhancing the knowledge of business operators in intercepting drug smuggling through international parcels.
The initiative has yielded tangible results, improving the cooperation network and increasing awareness among international parcel delivery operators. This effort is part of a broader strategy under the AITF and Seaport Interdiction Task Force (SITF) projects to intercept drugs at critical transit points like airports and ports.
The ONCB has expressed gratitude to the private sector for their role in inspecting and identifying suspicious shipments. This partnership is crucial in preventing drugs from reaching third countries. Following the seizure, the ONCB plans to further investigate the drug trafficking network, gather evidence, and prosecute those involved. Coordination with the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MIJIB) will also be undertaken to explore the network of parcel recipients in Taiwan.
