Minister of Labour Denies Reports on Cambodian Workers’ Immediate Return

Bangkok: "Trinuch" clarifies that there are no Cambodian workers who need to return to their country on February 13, 2026. Ms. Treenuch Thianthong, Minister of Labour, addressed the misinformation circulating about Cambodian workers in Thailand needing to return to Cambodia due to non-renewal of their work permits. She stated that reports suggesting the return of Cambodian workers on February 13, 2026, are incorrect. The Ministry clarified that only Laotian and Vietnamese nationals are allowed to work in Thailand until February 13, 2026, as per the Cabinet resolution dated February 4, 2025. A subsequent Cabinet resolution on December 2, 2025, extended this allowance for another year, until February 13, 2027.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Treenuch further detailed the situation for Cambodian nationals, explaining that those deemed illegal, following the Cabinet resolution on September 24, 2024, can work in Thailand until March 31, 2026. For Cambodian nationals who have renewed their work permits-originally expiring on February 13, 2025-based on the Cabinet resolutions from September 24, 2024, and February 4, 2025, they are permitted to remain and work until February 13, 2027, with the possibility of renewing their permits for up to two more years, extending to February 13, 2029. Consequently, no Cambodian workers face work permit expirations on February 13, 2026.

Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment, emphasized the department's efforts to collaborate with security agencies to devise appropriate measures for Cambodian workers. This collaboration aims to ensure a balance between economic, social, and national security interests.
