Thai-Cambodian Border Unrest Prompts Aid Efforts from Rural Roads Department

Bangkok: The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources has instructed districts bordering Cambodia to take care of the people amid ongoing unrest in the Thai-Cambodian border area.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Rural Roads has intensified efforts to deliver essential supplies to Thai citizens affected by the situation. Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, Mr. Pichit Hunsiri, emphasized the department's commitment to aiding Thai citizens living near the border. He stated that the Rural Highway District Offices in border areas such as Trat, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaeo, Surin, Buriram, Si Saket, and Ubon Ratchathani are working in full coordination with provincial and local agencies.

The response includes the provision of vehicles for transporting people and goods. Rural Highway District Offices have been urgently delivering essential supplies, including drinking water, dried food, ready-to-eat meals, milk, snacks, diapers, medicine, mattresses, pillows, and mosquito nets, to affected provinces. For instance, the Si Saket Rural Highway District Office has mobilized staff to transport these supplies to temporary shelters. Additionally, distribution centers have been established to facilitate the supply of goods, and discussions have been held to understand public needs for essential items.

The assistance is in line with the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, who has directed all agencies under his ministry to closely monitor the situation and provide comprehensive support to the public. The Department of Rural Roads, Ministry of Transport, will continue its assistance efforts until normalcy is restored.
