According to Thai News Agency, the increase in rainfall is attributed to a cold air mass from southern China spreading over northern and upper northeastern Thailand. This phenomenon has caused the monsoon trough to shift southward, affecting lower central Thailand, upper southern Thailand, the upper Gulf of Thailand, and eastern Thailand. Additionally, the strengthening southwest monsoon is expected to result in more rainfall across these regions.
The Meteorological Department has urged the public to remain cautious, particularly in areas susceptible to flash floods and landslides, such as hillsides, waterways, and low-lying areas. Travelers are advised to avoid routes prone to recurrent flooding due to the potential for short-term flooding.
Simultaneously, a strong low-pressure system in the central South China Sea is anticipated to intensify into a tropical cyclone. It is expected to approach the northern coast of Vietnam between September 13 and 14, 2026.
