Bangkok:MCOT recently hosted a significant demonstration of HbbTV and DVB-I trials to explore advancements in terrestrial digital television. This event was attended by representatives from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the Thai Public Broadcasting Service (TPBS).
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jetsada Pongthanathanawat, Acting President and CEO of MCOT Public Company Limited, welcomed Prof. Dr. Pirongrong Ramsut from the NBTC and Mr. Adisak Limprungpatanakit from TPBS. The delegation observed MCOT's efforts to integrate broadcasting with broadband/IP, aiming to enhance digital services across multiple devices.
During the demonstration, MCOT showcased its approach to expanding the terrestrial digital network, highlighting enhancements in television networks that allow public access to services on various devices, enable viewership measurement, and introduce features like disaster alerts. This initiative seeks to reduce Thai television stations' reliance on foreign platforms and improve service options.
MCOT aims to be the first operator to test HbbTV technology, following NBTC's approval for a testing area. Mr. Jesada emphasized that this initiative is designed to bridge broadcast with broadband, benefiting both viewers and the industry. MCOT is ready to collaborate with stakeholders for educational and developmental purposes, aiming to adapt to changing viewer behaviors and support the Thai television industry's competitiveness.
