According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Interior Minister Phonpeerap has directed governors across the country to intensify their scrutiny of illegal establishments known as "shabad," focusing on permits, locations, and the use of nominees. Authorities are expected to take decisive action against any establishment found operating outside the law.
Polpeera Suwannachavi, the Deputy Interior Minister, disclosed that the operations of sites resembling "Chabad" are under scrutiny, whether currently operational or under construction. He highlighted concerns over land ownership by foreigners and the use of Thai individuals or entities to conceal the legality of business operations. Polpeera emphasized the importance of strict oversight of building permit applications to ensure compliance with laws safeguarding public welfare and national interests.
The Ministry of Interior has laid out three measures for governors to tackle the issue effectively. First, local authorities are instructed to survey and gather factual information about the locations, occupants, and activities of these establishments without infringing on religious practices or individual rights. This includes maintaining an updated list of such information.
Secondly, there is a directive to inspect the permits of buildings, particularly those under construction, to verify compliance with building plans and business licenses. Any discrepancies or unauthorized actions should be met with strict enforcement of relevant laws.
Lastly, if suspicions arise about foreign land ownership or the use of nominees in business operations, provincial authorities are urged to collaborate with relevant agencies to investigate and enforce the law decisively.
